Partnership with Fireman's Fund Benefits Newport Firefighters
The partnership between the Preservation Society and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company has also yielded a benefit for the Newport Fire Department: new radios for firefighters. The Preservation Society alerted IMA and Fireman's Fund to the Department's need for updated communications equipment, and Fireman's Fund awarded the department a grant of $6,625, which purchased eight portable radios and remote microphones. The new radio equipment will allow firefighting teams entering hazardous environments to have and maintain property communications with the command center.

Fireman's Fund Features The Breakers in National Publication
A recent edition of Advisor, an educational magazine for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company policyholders distributed nationally, included an extensive article about The Breakers, its incredible interior decor and the key issues in managing the risk for such a National Historic Landmark. The article credits the Preservation Society and its Properties Director Curt Genga with the often ingenious strategies employed to retain every possible original element of the house while modernizing its infrastructure; it also offers owners of historic properties tips about how to adopt some of the Preservation Society’s strategies for their own homes.

Peter Herman of Insurance Marketing Agencies, Inc., who helped forge the insurance solution for the Preservation Society with Fireman’s Fund says, “The genius of the partnership is recognizing the buildings are all houses, not commercial properties…from an insurance point of view. Fireman’s Fund’s expertise in managing risks for historic properties is unmatched, and the Preservation Society’s protection of them is equally distinguished.”
“There is a real peace of mind for a property owner when you have risk management advisors like Mark McCormick and Richard Standring from Fireman’s Fund working with you,” said Preservation Society CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe. “I sleep better at night.” McCormick and Standring’s assistance with The Breakers and other properties is described in the Advisor article.
